Okay... so what is it already!?
A jar full of memories! Grab a large mason jar, make a cute tag (or not), and start writing down fun memories as the year goes along and sticking them in the jar. On New Year's Eve, read all of them together as a family and reminisce about the year. Starting January 1st with an empty jar, begin making (and writing down) new memories!
It is genius, and I'm just sad I didn't think of it myself. :)
Here's our new memory jar!
For the tag, I used a paint sample card and cut it to look like a gift tag, then punched a hole in it, and used some leftover elastic thread I had lying around (from a project that TOTALLY AND UTTERLY FAILED, but that's besides the point) to tie it onto the jar. Oh, and that cute little flower button was found at Joann's Fabrics on sale, and of course, I had to add it to my tag! I hand-wrote the word "memories" with a thin sharpie. So simple, people.
Now go make one for yourself, and start making some memories!
{To add to the tradition, you could also keep the memories at the end of the year and perhaps stick them in an album or notebook of sorts. It would be fun to be able to reminisce even years down the road about what the family did together over the years!}

Very cute!! That is a great way to remember memories since you can write them down soon after...I am forgetful later on!
